Bridging The Gap Between Curriculum and Careers In STEM In Partnership With Developing Experts

Details:

The Education Showroom is delighted to partner with Developing Experts, an organisation that aims to inspire pupils, teachers and parents to learn more about exciting and inspirational careers in STEM.

Developing Experts began their journey in 2015 as a tool to reduce the gap between curriculum and careers, aiming to make it easy for students to become inspired by the exciting world of science both within and outside the classroom. Through the creation of a comprehensive curriculum for students aged 4-16, Developing Experts empowers teachers and students by making career content instantly accessible and simple to digest.

The Developing Experts online platform features an ever growing library of over 1000 lessons written and supported by outstanding teachers and industry experts, each with the explicit aim of spotlighting specialist industry knowledge, career routes and future aspirations. Accompanied by worksheets, quizzes and supplementary assessment materials – all of which are fully mapped against the National Curriculum – the Developing Experts platform appeals to teachers with a limited understanding of science as well as those with a stronger background in STEM. Furthermore, each lesson allows teachers to adhere to Ofsted’s Quality of Education framework, which states that a curriculum should be ‘coherently planned towards cumulatively sufficient knowledge and skills for future learning and employment’. By understanding the link between scientific knowledge and workplace skills, all teachers are confidently able to deliver a curriculum which is ambitious and engaging for pupils.

Highlighting and optimising teacher wellbeing and minimising workload is a hugely important aspect of the Developing Experts platform. A fully complete and sequenced curriculum allows teachers to focus on inspiring curiosity in their classrooms whilst pupils can focus on learning. Furthermore, Developing Experts understands the role of science leads in schools and helps them achieve success by providing extensive and detailed documents. An immersive learning experience is created through a fun and interactive pupil zone and an abundance of exciting experiments, meaning that pupil engagement is fully optimised for success.

Developing Experts works with a diverse array of industry experts and specialists to inject each and every lesson with specialist, extensive and exciting knowledge. Speakers from industries such as the Royal Horticultural Society, Anglian Water and National Nuclear Laboratories bring career content to life; rather than being treated as separate from the curriculum, careers are embedded within and highlighted on the platform. Furthermore, Ofsted’s guidance on career provision in secondary schools asks for schools to prepare ‘good-quality, meaningful opportunities for pupils to encounter the world of work’. With Developing Experts, students are able to make purposeful and relevant connections between the content they learn during lessons with the applications of knowledge in the wider world, ensuring a seamless transition from education to industry.

The Education Showroom and Developing Experts would like to invite you to this free online Spotlight event where you will hear and learn much more about the amazing work Developing Experts are doing to profile careers within STEM.
