Thinking Matters: Delivering Impactful, Sustainable and Practical Metacognition!
The Education Showroom is delighted to partner with Thinking Matters, an organisation that has become world renowned for supporting thousands of educators to positively transform learner outcomes by developing their student’s metacognition and self regulation.
Thinking Matters’ roots and heritage is highly impressive and entwined with the Cognitive Education Development Unit at The University of Exeter where, almost twenty years ago, they jointly developed the leading concept of the ‘Thinking School’.
The Thinking School framework (where school’s take a whole school pedagogical approach to developing metacognitive, self regulating learners) remains a key tenet of Thinking Matters’ work. In some form, they have assisted almost all of the schools, UK based, European and international, who have achieved Exeter’s official accreditation as ‘Thinking Schools’.
Beyond (and as part of) supporting schools in gaining Thinking School accreditation, Thinking Matters provides teacher CPD, metacognitive tools, strategies, resources and technology that allow MATS, schools and individual educators to practically develop and implement learner metacognition and self regulation in their classrooms – without having to re-write their curriculums or schemes of work.
The Thinking Matters approach is to start by understanding your setting and where you are ‘at’ in terms of developing independent, ‘meta’ learners. With you, one of their expert consultants will then tailor a plan to suit your individual needs and budget. That may be as little as a couple of hours of advice to SLT, the provision of high quality resources, cutting edge ‘meta edtech’ or it could be a three year programme of training with wider staff to develop a whole school approach . Every school requirement and need can be accommodated by Thinking Matters.
Thinking Matters also runs the Thinking School Network – a global community of over 300 innovative, progressive schools in more than twenty countries around the world, whose leaders seek to create world-class, metacognitive education environments.
If you, your colleagues and your school would like to develop more independent learners in an evidence informed way that will not only have a hugely positive impact on your academic progress scores, but also future proof your learners to thrive both in and beyond your setting, then we invite you to register for this free online Spotlight event and have the opportunity to meet, explore and interact with Alisdair Wade, CEO of Thinking Matters and his team of metacognition experts.
